About the Author
Michael Collins flew in both the Gemini 10 and Apollo 11 space missions in the 1960s. He currently lives in southern Florida.

A humble view of a extraordinary journey

In the opinion of Michael Collins, they were test pilots doing their job and testing another vehicle. In my opinion, it's the greatest exploration undertaking in the history of humankind. After seeing Michael in the movie "In The Shadow of the Moon" I wanted to hear more of what he had to say about his time in NASA and life in general. I found his tone on the space program to be objective, insightful and so poignant that I'm tearing up thinking of it. He's very matter-of-fact in a chronological way, and yet it comes across in an otherworldly (literally and metaphorically) fashion that left me in awe the entire time. The time I spent reading this build to this being one of my favorite books, and is required reading for anyone, especially people fascinated by the idea of riding an explosion to another celestial body. Hard for me to write about. Michael Collins did it beautifully. Stop reading this review. Read the book.

Now I know why this is considered the BEST of the Apollo astronaut books!

Although I grew up watching the Apollo moonshots as a kid, apart from the magazine articles of the time and the book "For All Mankind" I had never read any of the books written by the astronauts, although I had heard about this one for years. I was finally compelled to pick up "Carrying the Fire" because the Command Module Pilots always got the least attention since they didn't actually walk on the moon, and I was intrigued to know what the man in orbit went through while his colleagues were down on the moon's surface.

This book has a reputation for being the best of the Apollo astronaut's books, and I can see why. It is also one of the best non-fiction books I've ever read! Collins has a way of putting you right there with him in the cockpit as a test pilot, in the Gemini capsule, walking in space or aboard Apollo 11--and there are some real white-knuckle moments he went through!

Highly recommend for those wanting to know more about the Apollo program & Apollo 11, or those too young to remember, who wish to know what it was all about.

Beyond any doubt the best biography of an astronaut

Carrying the fire is beyond any doubt the best of the astronauts biographies. As I'm sure you will know if you are looking at this page, Mike Collins was command module pilot of Apollo 11. Whilst Neil and Buzz went down to the moons surface, Mike remained in the command module and conducted experiments, took photographs and was there in case any emergency happened during the lunar rendezvous.
Mike has a great style of writing and his humour comes across excellently in the book. He leaves no stone unturned and one of the most entertaining and unabashed passages in the book is when he is detailing his thoughts on the other astronauts.
This book is often quoted and any NASA or Apollo buff has at least 1 copy sitting in his collection. Even if you are not a NASA or Apollo buff but just want a good read, then this book comes very highly recommended.

A worthwhile read

Terrific and interesting book. Having read Beowulf in high school, I figuered it only fair to read the story from the other side. I read Grendel back in the 70s and never forgot it. I'm giving this book to son as a birthday gift, hoping he takes the many lessons offered in this novel through the rest of his life.

Errors, but helpful

Lots of errors. I'm pretty sure cisco doesn't have a command called "shower interfaces status." That being said, the sheer amount of questions in the book really help point out areas where I need review before exam day. Just what I needed in my final stages of prep. Thanks!

Egyptian Colloquial Arabic Verbs - Exercise Book

The book under review as well as its "parent" -- Egyptian Colloquial Arabic Verbs -- both merit five stars. They fill a big gap in teaching Egyptian Colloquial Arabic, which is the most widespread form of colloquial Arabic. There are several good textbooks available for teaching the fundamentals of the grammar and the basic vocabulary, but in order to produce oral responses quickly and automatically one needs to drill repeatedly on grammatical structures. In this, verbs are perhaps the most important element. None of the (even good) textbooks provides anything like sufficient material for drills. These two books go a long way towards fulfilling the need. My only request would be for a CD or download that spoke out at least one example of each of the model verbs. However, let me repeat that the author of these books has put all learners of Egyptian Colloquial Arabic in his debt.

I am glad I bought this book, too!

Egyptian Colloquial Arabic (ECA) Verbs Exercise Book is really, really good. Excellent, in fact! It is the companion book to ECA Verbs Conjugation Tables and Grammar, another excellent book for which I also wrote a review. I love this workbook; it forces me to use all the new things I am learning about ECA verbs. Since I am learning on my own, (no teacher!) this is really important to me.

This will probably sound silly, but this workbook is sort of my tutor. How you might ask. Well, first off it explains things, starting simply and progressing step by step. For example, in the very beginning of the workbook it has you label the parts of the base form a verb, letter by letter. This simple exercise was very useful for me. The workbook then builds on this foundation by describing how verbs work in small but thoroughly explained increments. It continues in this way leading to full understanding and use of all verb forms.

Along with the helpful explanations are lots of exercises to practice with. One thing I particularly like about the exercises are the useful verbs involved, not only verbs like "eat", "learn", "go", etc. Verbs like "attend", "request", "heal", "research", are included from the very beginning. The drills for practice are very clever; crossword puzzles, dice used as a "random verb form generator", among others. This workbook is fast paced. It keeps you moving forward, learning and learning.

I can't recommend this workbook highly enough even though I am still working my way through it. It is really helping me learn how to use verbs properly and speak in a more comprehensible way.

Just another PMI Standard... But lots good concepts inside!

I find this book (just like the rest of PMI's standards) a very important reference for those wishing to acquire the "text book" knowledge, and very important for certification purposes.
But if you are looking for practical knowledge, and details on how to implement OPM3 on your organization, or on clients, then I recomend other books like "Every Organization can implement OPM3".

Out of date. Too much has happened and the model does not perform in this condition considering ISP, ITIL and COBIT 5. The Maturity assessment is not current. This is good to learn basics.

Once in a century we get formula as "E=mc square" or "Y=Arctg X" (where X is time and Y earth percentage controlled by single center) which explains so much phenomena with such elegance.
Einstein never attempted theory of history, explaining that history has too many variables. Ostrovsky detected among the multitude of variables a dominant overall trend.
I avoid more details (there is a detailed overview in Wikipedia). The bottom line: it is a mega-theory unseen in social sciences; worldwide grasp, penetrating analysis, superhuman outwork, scientific approach, bold execution. The future project is completely weird, but I want to see it does not happen that way.
Nevertheless, the book was not written just to awe experts and humiliate think-tanks. It is entirely comprehensible for all-level readers.

A very good content review! The most essential facts you will ever need from a trusting series. I also own two other books from this series and they are worth every penny. Excellent breakdown of the most important facts on
developmental milestones from the new born to
the adolescent. Very pleased with this book as I
will be able to do my pedi packet assignment
entirely based on this one source! My school did not recommend this book and instead had me
purchase a Peds textbook that introduces the
newborn chapter on page 549! while this review
goes straight to the juicy facts from page one in a systematic, easy to follow fashion and a language that is easy to understand. The definitions of the most important concepts at the beginning of each chapter are a plus as well.The Nclex questions at the end of rhe chapter reinforce the key concepts: i wish there were more of them. However it is the review of the key concepts why i bought the book because this review rocks. For Nclex questions i purchased two other separate books from the Success series. And yes there is an answer key
at the end of this booK as well unlike in my Peds textbook required by the Nursing Program which came without the answers to the questions at the end of the chapter!

I have used this book for 90% of my studying in my pediatrics semester. I have only opened my actual textbook once and have only had to refer to another source for one or two conditions that were not included in this book. This is the semester in our nursing program where the most people fail and I'm currently sitting at an A with one exam left to go.
