the world is changing, the face of that expanse of home waters is fading
and growing thin. The thin places, he calls them: the margin between
this world and the next.
After eight thousand years of intimacy, the native waters of his
people are going the way of memory.
And he is not sure if he can continue to be Chitimacha, 'people of
the many waters,' without them. The creel of home waters is filled with
sadness, as well as joy.

This memoir takes place in 2005 and early 2006. The environmental nightmare that is the destruction of the Atchafalaya Basin continues. The title refers to a Native American term for the arrival of the Europeans in 1492 and beyond, which many refer to as "the great sadness." The thin places grow thinner, and author must come to grips with a thing none of his forefathers could have ever imagined: There are endings. There is finality.
The Louisiana Public Broadcasting documentary "Native Waters: A Chitimacha Recollection" was based on this book and its predecessor, "Native Waters: An Indigenous Fly Fisher's Journey Across Water and Time." It is now being broadcast nationwide on public broadcasting stations everywhere, and was an Emmy nominee and recipient of a Bronze Telly Award.

About the Author
Roger Emile Stouff is the son of Nicholas Leonard Stouff Jr., last chief of the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana, and Lydia Marie Gaudet Stouff, daughter of a Cajun farmer. He has been a journalist for more then thirty years and writer of the award-winning column "From the Other Side" in the St. Mary and Franklin Banner-Tribune. He was featured on the television show "Fly Fishing America" in 2006, and was writer and narrator of the documentary "Native Waters: A Chitimacha Recollection" on Louisiana Public Broadcasting in 2010.

The Great Sadness Is A Great Joy

Roger Stouff does an exceptional job of sharing the Culture of the Chitimacha by weaving tales of his experience as an Indian man watching his ancestral waters fade away while hanging on to as much tradition as he can. The book is at times poignant but always heartwarming because Stouff's love of his ancestry and of the waters of the Atchafalaya Basin always shine through.

Kurt Vonnegut and Robert Pirsig go fly-fishing

Roger Emile Stouff has delivered another gift to us folks who, because we are chained to conventions of time and space, inhabit only our safe world we can see and hear. In The Great Sadness, Mr. Stouff guides us through his "thin" place, where, as he so eloquently writes: "There are places where the boundaries between this world and the next, the separations of the seen and the unseen, are not so substantial."

This is a work of non-fiction. At times you have to remind oneself of this fact. He teaches you about his near Luddite obsession with handcrafted wooden boats and bamboo fly-fishing rods. But the most moving prose of this follow-up to his fine book, Native Waters, is when Mr. Stouff takes your head in his remarkable writing hand and opens doors into the world of his Native American ancestors where you would not venture without such a guide. I offer a few examples of his guidebook and if these do not strike a chord you may want to go see a neurologist to check your wiring.

The following describes his father's death.

"I keep his medicine bag close by. It's a small leather satchel, with buckskin fringe, no bigger than a thick trade paperback book. I don't know what's in it because it's his medicine bag. I have never opened it. It's full of the things that made him strong, kept him close to the water and protected him from the bad in the world. I can't possess his magic, but I can borrow from it because the same blood flows in my veins."

"Someday I'll have my own. Full of the things that strengthen and protect me. I haven't started to collect it. I'm a little lost over it, because I don't know what should be in there. He died before he could teach me. I thought of putting it in his coffin with him, but he had his abalone bolo tie on and the eagle feather in his hands, both full of power, and when I thought
of placing the bag at his side, the resonance of a tuning fork spoke in a deep voice slightly tinged with the accent of a man raised in Texas:
Keep it. I know the way.

Mr. Stouff is a gifted writer. If you enjoy reading Kurt Vonnegut, his ability to become unstuck in time, and communicate with his ancient Native American ancestors, will remind you of Billy Pilgrim. If you, like me, are a recurrent visitor to Robert Pirsig's Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, you will revel in his devotion to Quality. One need not be a devotee of the intricacies of the handmade bamboo fly-fishing rods he so admires to appreciate that the rod is an instrument by which the Quality of a man can be judged.

The Great Sadness is a work of Quality. It is highly recommended.

However, when he takes on matters close to his heart, like "The Great Sadness" the writing is profound and thought provoking. Like sitting with an elder listening to them speak of the old days. Let me start by saying: This book is NOT for Everyone!!! That said, it was one heck of a Hot, Dirty, Erotic, quick read. This book is indeed Beastiality. If you have any doubts about this subject matter, do not buy it, pass it up. If you want a super Hot, Erotic story one click it or read on KU.

I usually do not buy books this short but my curiousity was piqued and it only cost 99 cents. This is my first book of this genre and I will be checking more out. I loved it! If in doubt, download the free sample.

What a wonderfully filthy and erotic read!

Oh, I feel so dirty right now! What a wonderfully filthy read.

Serena and Mo are friends working at Mr. Fullerton’s horse ranch for the summer. Serena is the shy quiet one and Mo is the flirtatious out going one. Serena and Mo are both crushing on the ranch hand Brett, but Mo’s constant flirts are at last successful. Mr. Fullerton isn’t the social type and he is all work and no play and never concerned about anyone’s feelings or well being. Just the slightest shenanigans on the ranch and Mr. Fullerton will fire you. Serena is shocked when she has a run in with a snake and Mr. Fullerton is there to help and in more ways than one. When Serena needs a quite spot to relax and get away from it all, she finds a secluded and almost magical waterfall. Here, Serena comes face to face with a unicorn and learns just how majestic they can really be.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked this up. I love monster erotica and this is my first unicorn. I gotta admit that I really enjoyed it. Its smokin hot, not a single dull moment in this story and the flow and plot of the story is pretty good. I’m totally digging the horse ranch scene. The sex is really good throughout but I’m not sure how I feel about fisting. It’s not bad and there is a point to it, but I just haven’t read a lot of books with that in there yet, so I’m still getting used to the idea of it.

Overall it was hot, fun and delicious. For someone who may be thinking about buying this, please be aware that this is not a shifter romance. There is no shift at all. The unicorn is described as almost goat like with a forked tongue. There are hints that his whinny sounds almost human, but that’s it. I don’t even care and I loved it. I can’t wait to read the next one. Cecilia Chase has a new fan!

Scorching hot paranormal erotic story

Horn of Desire starts off with strong characters and a deceptively intense sex scene right off the bat, as a cast of young men and women work at a Ranch next to the woods for the summer with the owner keeping a pervy eye on them. Serena, a young college-age woman, is too shy to do anything about hooking up with the hot rodeo champ ranch hand but her best friend isn’t and this rivalry carriers through the story. After some shockingly arousing horse breeding at the ranch, Serena is even more shocked by the older man's seemingly nonchalant treatment of her best friend when they tryst in the hay loft.

When Serena hikes off alone to a secluded waterfall and meets a glowing horse-like creature, she assumes its one of the ranch animals that got loose. The reality is much more fantastic: unicorns are real and she has stumbled into one of their magical groves.

Unlike creatures of legend, though, these unicorns want young women for much more carnal reasons than the myths would have you believe. Serena is ravaged by the unicorn and the union is literally enchanting. Far from hating it, Serena craves more from the unicorn… both his magic and his ‘magical horn’ which may not be the one you are thinking of.

Jessica Finley has been a student of the sword for over fourteen years. Her interest began in stage combat, but quickly branched out to German Medieval Swordsmanship. She had been a student of the Selohaar Fechtschule, within which she held a rank of Free Scholar, and has founded three chapters of that organization as she has moved across the country. Currently, she lives outside of Atlanta with her husband and children.

About the Author

Geoff Reiss is Senior Architect with Program Management Group plc. He has extensive experience in the construction industry and has grown into the project management specialism over a varied career.

Paul Rayner After an early career with IBM in Australia Paul Rayner began a lifelong interest in the best ways of managing large scale corporate projects. He was a Commercial Projects Manager for Cybernet Timesharing in the 70’s, and principle of Great Northern Computer Services. After gaining his MBA he joined Logica plc as a Management Consultant, where he worked until his retirement in 2011. He chaired the Association for Project Management’s Programme Management Group, wrote the APM Introduction to Programme Management, and co-authored the Gower Handbook of Programme Management (2006).

He worked extraordinarily hard to improve approaches to portfolio and programme management, cheerfully giving his time to speak at events throughout the world. He was also a committed family man who took great pride in supporting the achievements of his three children. When he knew he was dying of cancer, he was determined to finish Portfolio and Programme Management Demystified, which he wanted to dedicate to them. He died, aged 64, in August 2011.

Donnie MacNicol Utilising his extensive PM experience across multiple industries Donnie leads consultancy, training, facilitation and mentoring assignments for global companies and government departments in developing project and programme leadership. Donnie chaired the Association for Project Management People Specific Interest Group for 10 years to 2011, is a Visiting Fellow at Kingston Business School, an individual member of the Acumen7 professional network and Partner at Synatus.

One of two recommended books on Program Management

Would Buy Again. One of two recommended books on Program Management, the other is Program Management (Fundamentals of Project Management) Michel Thiry. I really find it annoying that you have to keep typing until you have twenty five words in these reviews. I would be inclined to fill out mofe if they would take off this requirement.

In France, the divorce rate is noticeably lower than America's, romance is a way of life, aphrodisiacs grace the plate, and bad food is taboo. Are you starting to see a connection here? Every meal is an occasion to celebrate sensuality and toast love, romance, family, and life. Good food served on a bed of romance leads to a happy, healthy, long, loving, sexually satisfying life.

    From Beefcake to Cheesecake

    Food and sex are intimately entwined in our bodies and minds. Even our language associates food with sex. Just consider the culinary-charged terms used in the game of sexual pursuit -- beefcake, cheesecake, honey, sweetie pie, sugar britches, sugar daddy, buns, sausage, melons, meat, and nuts. (Quite a meal!) In fact, the ancient Greeks were so aware of the food/sex connection that cheesecakes were baked in the shape of a woman's breast, thus linking the taste buds with the libido and inventing one of the greatest desserts in history (or is it herstory?), that eventually gave birth to today's wedding cake.

    During World War II, G.I.'s longing for female companionship placed pictures of a scantily clad Betty Grable and her glamorous gams over their beds and referred to the pin-up as "cheesecake." Leggy actresses weren't the only bodies up for show. In the early 1950s erotic photographic displays of the male physique began to be exhibited in bodybuilding magazines. Eventually these pectoral pictorials began filtering into mainstream society and the term beefcake was born.

    There are a number of reasons why aphrodisiacs have the power to ignite our senses, capture our imaginations, and fire up our libidos. Aphrodisiacs work on many levels and several factors come into play: chemical, sensory, emotional, romantic, social, and energy factors.

    The Chemical Factor

    Casanova didn't need a double-blind, placebo-controlled research study sponsored by a giant pharmaceutical conglomerate to know that oysters are an aphrodisiac. He listened to (or perhaps watched) his body respond. Finally, science has explained what he experienced: Oysters are rich in zinc, a male virility mineral. Ol' Casanova knew his stuff. Our sexual organs and endocrine system need special nourishment. Every day he ate dozens of oysters off the breasts of a beautiful woman, usually in a warm tub.

    Why do women crave chocolate? Because it's an aphrodisiac, tastes fabulous, and contains magnesium, a mineral that many women crave, particularly before menstruation. Chocolate also contains more than four hundred different chemicals, including phenylethylamine (PEA), an amphetamine-like brain chemical that triggers the sense of euphoria that people experience when they fall in love. Chocolate's seductive combination of fat and sugar increases natural pleasure chemicals produced by the brain called endorphins. And the enticing food also contains the stimulants theobromine and caffeine, which rev up the central nervous system and elevate heart rate and blood pressure. All of these help put us in the "love" mood and enhance sexual performance.

    The Aztec king Montezuma drank fifty cups of cocoa before entertaining his harem of six hundred women. (Toga, toga, toga!) How he ever found the time and energy to rule his kingdom is beyond us.

    Everyone's reaching for Viagra for a reason, and a lot of it has to do with diet. The over-processed, standard American diet is filled with sugar, calories, and fat, which can cause a significant drop in testosterone levels and increase the risk of erectile dysfunction. (Yes, too many double-pepperoni, sausage, and extra-cheese pizzas can rob you of your manhood. Think about that the next time you call Domino's.) The standard American diet lacks key vitamins, such as E (which is needed to make sex hormones and sperm) and the B-complex (which helps increase blood flow to the penis); minerals like zinc and calcium (which helps fight osteoporosis, PMS, and even depression); and essential fats, all of which are needed for your body to be a healthy, functioning, sexually vital machine.

    There are dozens of foods that have been shown to reverse the aging process and increase your sexual appetite and capacity. Unlike Viagra, these natural sexual stimulants and body boosters don't have negative side effects like headaches, diarrhea, urinary tract infections, and blue/green-tinted vision. (We know, back in school you used to pay big money to a guy named Chemical Carl for the blue/green-tinted vision.) There are many foods that we'll tell you about that work like Viagra does by boosting levels of a molecule called nitric oxide, which triggers erections.

    The Sensory Factor

    Babies quickly learn to associate certain tastes and smells with comfort and contentment. As adults, tastes and smells remain a trigger, while romantic love and sex become our comfort and contentment.

    Eating is an intimate, sensual, and sensory activity that can stimulate our sexual appetites if the right foods are correctly prepared and consumed. Foods that remind us of sex because of their taste, texture, or appearance are turn-ons: Briny seafood, for example, smells and tastes like sexual juices. Not to mention that seafood is rich in nutrients that help boost hormone levels and enhance sexual function. This shouldn't be shocking or come as a surprise; after all, life on earth originated in the sea. Raw seafood is also sensuous and suggestive because of its fleshy, soft texture. Eat seafood with the hands (think of the lobster scene in the movie Flashdance and you'll know what we mean) and the food/sex connection becomes even clearer.

    We don't need to tell you what bananas, carrots, asparagus, and figs resemble. Look closely as you take a bite and you may find your mind wandering to thoughts of...After all, it doesn't take much. The average male thinks about sex eleven times an hour. Flowers, which are plants' sexual organs, remind us of the budding passion of spring -- and let's face it, blossoms resemble a vagina. (Just take a look at a Georgia O'Keeffe painting.)

    Buying your lover flowers is a simple gesture that communicates: "I want to make love to you." Why? Sens...

    Unfunny and grating but interesting nonetheless

    Fans of the Food Network's "Good Eats" will find a lot to like in this book that purports to be all about upping your potency and turning your partner on, but in actuality is really a bunch of food trivia. Interesting, yes. Will it improve your sex life? Doubtful.
    The real turnoff here is the authors' irrepressible need to insert some schticky one-liner in every other paragraph. That would be fine if they were funny. Instead, they're sophomoric and annoying, and they make it difficult to read more than a couple pages at a time. It quickly becomes a test of endurance.
