A must have book of positive affirmations for young and aspiring women

I really like Miranda's new book, but have just a few let-downs: being Christian, I did not appreciate the photo insert of her New York Post Magazine cover that said "God hates us... but we have an angel (referring to her work with Victoria secret)." I just found that a bit offensive, although that was probably not her intention at all. I can understand that she wanted to share a few magazines, but I just think that one cover was a poor choice to include. I really love the fact that it is a book of positive affirmations (that's all it is, with a couple sections of photo inserts and a small, but uplifting intro), but I just wish she had expanded a bit more on the affirmation interpretations, because I love when she talks in depth about something she is passionate about. My last thing, is that although I truly, absolutely LOVE the cover design and fabric, the binding is a bit tight and hard to open to read. I love the way her books have been designed and highly, highly recommend them to young girls and young adults (women especially) who want something simple, yet very helpful and motivating to get them started in self-discovery and learning about their potential. I do believe that Miranda is an incredibly kind-hearted, successful, accomplished and powerful woman and this shows through in both of her books, which I love. She doesn't just put her name on something for publicity, she is very involved in whatever she is promoting. She practices what she preaches and is quite humble. She is willing to accept her failures or short-coming, but she also uses them as learning experiences and she grows from them, which is something to really admire about her. I bought the book from her website for around $31 USD.

Wish it Had Been Deeper

I love books like this! I actually think it helps me in a lot of ways. Treasure Yourself was the first time I used the affirmations in a real way and honestly that's still the best of these books and my favorite.

There was nothing new in this and there was a lot of everyday stuff like I will take care of my dental health or I will be on time. I do recognize the need for it for some people I was just hoping that this would build on Treasure Yourself and go deeper whereas I felt like this was really rather pointless for me personally.

Still worth the look though and together with Treasure Yourself could be a really great gift idea for people.

Fantastic Book on the Basics of Screenwriting

Okay, I'm starting this review to note that I'm jealous. Why? I could have written this book but, sadly, I didn't. For the sake of screenwriters out there, though, I'm glad SOMEONE did. It's about time.

In all my years of teaching screenwriting and reading and critiquing scripts I've come across all the items that Mr. Akers talks about in this book and then some. I'm extremely happy that it is all right there, in print.

How does the book help? Well, it lays it all right out there for you. Basic. To the point. Mr. Akers takes you from the idea stage to the "Hollywood is going to LOVE ME" stage in 100 easy steps. Okay, maybe "easy" isn't the best word. Anything worth working on, and working towards, isn't usually easy and that is one of the reasons why this book works so well. It's not a quick fix to screenwriting but a process: a well defined deconstruction of the process.

Every quarter I get a writer in my class who assumes that screenwriting is "easy." Sure it's not writing "War and Peace" but it's also not "easy." But in the 8 sessions of my class - it's difficult to define what makes screenwriting so difficult. What I like about Mr. Akers book so much is that he takes the difficult and gives you ideas on how to make it easy. When I critique screenplays I always hope that I will provide the writer with a: "Ooooh, THAT'S what you're talking about!" moment. Mr. Akers' book is full of them.

Another reason why I like this book so much is that Mr. Akers is honest with the reader. Especially in the section about Hollywood. Every quarter I struggle mightily against what I refer to as the "Lotto Mentality" when it comes to screenwriting. Those in the class who think that all they need to do is churn out that script about their mother's hysterectomy and Hollywood will come calling and money will fall like manna from heaven. Honesty is a good thing, especially when you are starting out - and too often there are too many books that just say what they think the reader wants to hear.

As for my issues with the book... Well, there are a few things that Mr. Akers did not touch on that I think are very important and I'll send those to him for the hoped for sequel to the book. Plus I would have loved more examples of what he was talking about and referring to. And, lastly, it would have been nice to have some sort of "coding" system as to what is EXTREMELY important and what is only VERY important. Certainly all 100 of these references are important but I think there were probably some that rise to a different level. Trust me, if you have typos and bad structure - just toss your script into a shredder now because it's not going to go anywhere. Where as, yeah having two characters named Jim and Tim isn't ideal and it MAY get your script tossed - it won't be tossed as quickly if you've misspelled ten words on the first page of your script.

Bottom line: Will Akers takes a straight-forward no-nonsense approach to the process of writing and fixing your screenplay. He cuts through the crap and gets right to the heart of what is wrong and simply tells you how to fix it. Fantastic book.

Good Book for Beginners

You only need to read so many books on how to write screenplays before you realize that all it takes is the basic knowledge of formatting and a great story. The latter of which is most rare and of utter importance.

As for the book, it's good. Certainly provides many common mistakes and cliches.

Tracker centers on Alex O'Roark, FBI Special Agent whose life is changed forever when he gets infected with werewolf blood. This supernatural drama is dark and suspenseful, its story is really well thought out with a unique perspective about the werewolf fiction. The character development is very interesting as you read about Alex's relationships and witness Alex's transformation become more than just a physical one. Werewolf myths have been around for centuries but this modern werewolf story is a must read!

Tracker is the favorite comic book I’ve read!� It has great illustrations and has an intriguing plot. It takes a unique perspective on the werewolf genre and makes it fresh.� Immediately, Alex is thrown into the action when he is infected with werewolf blood. This gives him “superhuman” abilities for short bursts of time but endangers those around him. Alex has a hard time controlling the animal inside and it sometimes escapes. He must learn to harness this power to track down the most evasive serial killer of all time. I really enjoyed Tracker and I’m going to read the next one when it comes out!

Great story

Prior to Tracker I hadn't been a fan of werewolf mythology but after picking it up I couldn't get over how well-done the art was and how much the story gauged my interest. Tracker puts an interesting spin on the concept of werewolves in every day life and wonderfully integrates it into the story of an FBI agent caught in a love triangle between his fianc� and partner, all the while dealing with his new status as a lycanthrope. It's an original take on the workplace drama and it had me hooked until the very end. I'm definitely looking forward to future issues!

Worth the read even if you're not in Sales. Applications for everyday life

I'm not even in Sales but this was a fantastic read! I love how concise it is and all the examples you give especially with where the changes in approach can change the outcome. I think your tips and tactics apply to more than just demos and work. I think it's more far reaching than that. For example, YOU-THEY-YOU can apply to any conversation had on a daily basis. And 5 Minute Discovery should be a requirement for first dates. Haha. I loved the book, your direct approach, and the fact that your goal is to help make others better at what they do. Thanks for the reading material. I'm sure to pass it on to others whom I think will benefit from your content.

The 1990s have witnessed a sort of renaissance in cave art, thanks to new discoveries from the south of France. Previously, the oldest examples of human art were thought to have been painted 15,000 years ago. When these three spelunkers-turned-authors happened upon the Chauvet cave (named after one of them), however, they visited an underground art gallery that had been closed for 30,000 years. It's still inaccessible today, except to specialists. But this wonderful book of pictures and text allows virtual tourists to appreciate the creations of our remotest ancestors. This may be primitive art in the literal sense of the term, but it's remarkably sophisticated.

The prehistoric paintings recently discovered in Chauvet Cave are twice as old as the paintings of Lascaux, and show both considerable strength and beauty. The discoverers of Chauvet Cave are well known and respected speleologists who maintained impeccable records while exploring their find. It is they who tell the story of their explorations. In many ways this book is reminiscent of Carter's writings about Tutankhamen's tomb with a similar sense of awe at the millennia that had passed between the fabrication of the work and the modern discovery. The text is good, with a clean, easy-to-read translation by prehistorian Paul G. Bahn, who also provides the foreword. It is the photographs, however, that capture the real power and beauty of these paintings, bringing the humanity of their Stone Age artists close to home. Before there were artists at the famous caves of Lascaux, there were artists at Chauvet and Cosquer--two caves whose paleolithic drawings remained undiscovered until the 1990s. Chauvet, in southeast France, is the most ancient; some of its vivid panels of horses, lions, and rhinoceri (beautifully reproduced here) are as much as 31,000 years old. Cosquer, buried for 20 centuries beneath the Mediterranean, was serendipitously discovered by a diver for whom the cave is named. Some of the Cosquer drawings date back 27,000 years. First Book Published in English an the Cave Discoverer is the Author

This book was the first in English to come out on this amazing cave. The author is the discoverer of the cave: Jean-Marie Chauvet. Because of that, the cave was named for him. He also was in charge of the team responsible for the analysis of the find. Since the book was published in the early days of analyzing the cave, the text on the contents of the cave is not as detailed (or complete) as it might be for a similar book published at a later date. Still, it is one of the best books available on this cave in English. Highly recommended!

The entrance to the Chauvet cave was sealed off in a landslide 23,000 years ago, creating a time capsule from the Upper Paleolithic period (the Ice Age). A time when Europe was covered with huge glaciers, the sea level was hundreds of feet lower than what it is today, the population was only a few thousand people (including Neanderthals), and long extinct animal (like wooly mammoths, cave bears, cave lions, etc.) roamed Europe. The cave is so well preserved that the hundreds of drawings and paintings (made during several periods thousands of years apart) appear as fresh as if they were made only recently.

worth getting

This book is filled with beautiful photographs of the oldest known cave art in the world. Simply flipping through and examining these paintings is an amazing experience. However, the text is a little less than breathtaking, providing little information for even those of us who know very little about cave art. It is little more than a description of how the discoverers felt upon finding this cave. Nonetheless, this book is worth purchasing, if only for the spectacular photos.

Beautiful Photographs of the oldest cave art known.

The Chauvet Cave in Southern France has caused art history to have to be re-written. This brilliantly painted cave- far older than Lascaux and others in the region is exhibited beautifully here in a lush "Coffee Table" book form. These are well reproduced photographs of superb art work. Some of the animals drawn by the ancient artists have multiple legs- suggesting motion. Also surprising is the attempt at a realistic perspective in some of the works. As excellent as the book is in its photographs it is short on explaining the many questions this art brings to mind such as - "What function did this art serve." Perhaps this is for the best since the answers may always remain in the realm of speculation. This book is the only way to see this great art- as the cave will probably never be opened to general public visitation.
