Solid, Christological Scholarship

Disclaimer: Rev. Dr. Jeff Gibbs is one of my favorite professors from my time in seminary. As such, I fully admit my bias for his work.
With that being said, I highly recommend his commentary on Matthew, including this volume, for any serious Bible scholar who wants valuable insight from a devoted student of the text. Starting from his personal relationship with Jesus and his intimate knowledge of Matthew's Gospel, Gibbs delivers a careful, comprehensive explanation of the text that brings together both current scholarship and a commitment to its inspired, inerrant nature as part of the biblical canon.

Great Bible Study Help

I found this commentary to be a great resource for writing Bible studies. It approaches the text academically, as expected, but the applications Gibbs included made for easy discussion questions with my women's Bible study group.
In addition to this, you can expect to find this commentary to be very Christ-centered, even occasionally straying from traditional interpretations in order to maintain this focus and remain faithful to the text.

Great commentary!

This commentary by Gibbs goes into the exegesis of a text well. He doesn't cover major exegetical issues as one would hope but is good for surface level exegesis.
